Ancient Jewish Wisdom for the Modern Soul
The book of Psalms has been a source of spiritual illumination and encouragement for generations, because the Psalms are words of life to all who find them. These ancient Jewish poems speak of healing and deliverance, prayer and praise, lament and hope. They help us experience the fullness of joy in God’s presence and recover our equilibrium in a world where so much knocks us off balance and steals our shalom.
Now you can experience the beauty, majesty, and life-transforming power of the Psalms from a Jewish perspective. This devotional and the Tree of Life Version of the Bible flow from the heart of today’s Messianic Jewish movement to offer the Jewish essence of the Psalms in a way that promises shalom for the modern heart and soul.

Oh, how I love Shalom in Psalms. Not just because it’s God’s Word, but it’s so beautifully explained. I’d never really been drawn to Psalms before but God was dropping hints that I needed to read Psalm 139. He led me to this book and I was joyful to find Psalms defined so powerfully. Psalm 139 took my breath away.
There were two minor things within the book that I found easily fixable. The first is that I’m used to seeing Book names/numbers at the top of the pages in the translations I use. So I hand wrote appropriate Psalm numbers throughout the book for quicker reference.
The second thing is that I learned quickly that the verse numbers aren’t always aligned with other translations. Occasionally, I had to look at the second verse in Shalom to align with the first verse in my ESV or NIV. For example: Shalom Psalm 3:2 aligns with ESV Psalm 3:1. What is often “anecdotal” at the beginning of each ESV Psalm is part of the Shalom Psalm placed within the first verse—sometimes it’s the complete first verse. That sometimes changes all the verse numbers in that particular Psalm.
If I’m just reading Psalms for pleasure, for meditation, for calming then I truly love reading them in Shalom in Psalms. If I’m referencing Psalms in a study, then I’m careful to align the verse numbers with what the study is calling out.
I would recommend Shalom in Psalms to anyone who wants to understand Psalms. I’ve given it as gifts to friends and they love it also. The book doesn’t sit on my book shelf. It’s right next to me at my study table. I read from it almost daily.
If you were to look through my bookshelves, you would find a few dozen dusty devotionals. Shalom in Psalms would not be among them because it does not make it back on the shelf. I use this resource as part of my daily study of the Scriptures. The insights are invaluable and insightful. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to dig deeper into the study of Psalms.
